The control and participation of the Canandaigua Treaty commemoration on November 11, 2025, by the Bureau of Indian Affairs(BIA) elective government of the Seneca Nation of Indians signals yet another possible attempt by the SNI to overthrow the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. And SNI's participation could possibly derail their own lawsuit against New York State for the NYS Thurway crossing their land without payment.
The Seneca Nation of Indians is a BIA agency and not a part of the Haudenossunee Confederacy. SNI voluntarily abandoned the Haudenosaunee Confederacy in 1848. The BIA-SNI has never been a part of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The Canandaigua Treaty of 1794 was made with the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, also known historically as "The Six Nations". The Bureau of Indian Affairs-Seneca Nation of Indians was created by the United States government in 1848. 54 years after the signing of the Canandaigua treaty. Not known if this has happened at prior commemorations: When the president of the Seneca nation of Indians, which is a Bureau of Indian Affairs- elected government, participated in this commemoration of 2025. Both, the president of the Seneca Nation of Indians and a Seneca Nation of Indians counselor from Allegheny, were the only ones to speak at this commemoration regarding the treaty.
