Yes, the United Nations currently recognizes an Indigenous PEOPLES Day (created in 1982). What is needed now in 2023, is an Indigenous NATIONS Month.
When the wording of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous "Peoples" was being hammered out, every word was being argued over by the world powers and the indigenous nations. The Indigenous Nations tried to have it be named the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous "Nations". But the world powers won out and that's why today it's called the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous "Peoples". The world powers made sure the Indigenous Nations of the world would be kept as "Peoples" and would not be given recognition as Indigenous "Nations".
It is now time for the United Nations to give that recognition to the Indigenous Nations of the world. And to designate an official Indigenous Nations status, seat and voice at the United Nations.
The United Nations can start by officially declaring a month of the year, as "Indigenous Nations Month".
This worldwide grassroots effort will be building on the recent, hugely successful July 2023 trip of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Delegation, to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. This was the second trip to the United Nations, in preparation for the 2024 celebration of the 100 year anniversary of Haudenosaunee Chief Levi General speech in Geneva Switzerland, the League of Nations in 1924.
The Haudenosaunee Confederacy Delegation, officially recognized by the United Nations, consisted of 20 citizens, youth and adult, 15 women and 5 men. All traveling on Haudenosaunee Passports . I will only touch on the trip, as there is so much important information and events that happened during this United Nations official recognition of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
While in Geneva, the current Haudenosauneee Chief who holds the same title as Levi General did in 1924, Deskaheh, spoke at the United Nations Emiraites Room XVII. (newly renovated, check out this room on the internet)
Towards the end of his speech, Deskaheh said: 'he will not speak again at the United Nations, until the United Nations recognizes the Haudenosaunee Confederacy as a Nation'.
And then sat down. Everyone in the audience gave his speech a standing ovation.
Also, it was acknowledged to the Haudenosaunee Delgation that Switzerland's government was patterned after the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
Recently, the Canadian Ambassador has stated that Canada takes responsibility for preventing Haudenosaunee Chief Levi General to speak at the League of Nations in 1924. It was moved last minute to another venue and all the important dignitaries were there to listen.
During this July 2023 trip to the U.N., many Indigenous Nations from around the world also attended, looking to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy to give all Indigenous Nations official recognition at the United Nations.
A worldwide grassroots effort is now needed to have the United Nations officially recognize a month of every year as INDIGENOUS NATIONS MONTH. I believe there are still two months available, which are December and June. Of course this would have to be checked into and discussed as to which month it will be. Details.
There are over 4,400 views of this blog from around the world. Let us all come together to make this happen.
The United States has a "Native American Heritage Month". And Canada has a "Indigenous Peoples History Month". These are of course Colonial labels. Notice no mention of "Indigenous Nations".
The world needs to make this happen. The United Nations needs declare an official INDIGENOUS NATIONS MONTH.
This will be the coming together of all the Indigenous Nations from around the world, with their nations, groups and individual supporters and allies. Let us bring together all the Indigenous Nation Youth Groups from around the world, to work on this. Have grade schools, high schools and universities across Canada and the United States, campaign for an "Indigenous Nations Month".
It is their future.
We can do this.
