86.) December 6th, 2023, the Haudenosaunee Nationals get support to play in the 2028 Olympics from the U.S. President and the Canadian Sports Minister. But there are clear mixed messages being sent about the Haudenosaunee Confederacy being considered as a nation, to compete in the 2028 Olympics. This is unacceptable. The Haudenosaunee Nationals must be allowed to compete as a nation, as all other nations in the Olympics.(10 min. read)
There are mixed messages of colonialism and nationhood being sent, regarding the Haudenossunee Confederacy. Will it be considered a nation to enter the 2028 Olympics.
No one is using the correct terminology and stating the Haudenosaunee Confederacy is a nation.
This is a follow-up to previous Article 85., dated November 21st 2023.
This was good news to start the dialogue of nationhood. And it could be interpreted as perhaps a welcomed first step by the United States and Canada to recognize on the world stage, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy as a nation. It seems that most involved want the Haudenosaunee Nationals lacrosse team to compete in the 2028 Olympics. The question now is will the team be allowed to compete as a nation, or as a "special exception" to the rule of being a nation. Or within the U.S. or Canadian teams. You are now witnessing the colonial politics that are still alive in the International Olympic Committee.
"Biden said he is requesting a 'narrow scoped exception' to Olympic rules."
This December 6th, 2023 event could be a step forward for the United States and Canada, as being part of the Five Eyes. See Article 65.
With all this good news in mind, and certainly not to diminish it in any way, it is apparent from the news article quotes from politicians and reporters, that much work and clarification still needs to be done. With this in mind I offer the following, with good intentions and the hope of continued collaboration of recognition of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy as a nation and not as a "narrow-scoped exception" to the rule of being a "nation".
However, as a quick side note of reality. The Department of the Interior / Bureau of Indian Affairs does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Freedom of Information Laws (FOIL) of the United States, because the BIA says it only deal with "indians". Apparently the BIA does not to have to give any information on tribal leaders or any other information of what goes on with the tribal leaders and the BIA . More to follow.
This latest event on December 6th 2023, may have been the closest in memory, that the U.S. And Canada have publicly recognized the Haudenossunee Confederacy, without actually saying "Haudenosaunee Confederacy".
Let everyone- the United States, Canada, and the mass media finally disposed of all the colonial labels by saying and only using the name "Haudenosaunee Confederacy".
"Haudenosaunee" was used to describe the team's name, but not to describe the Haudenodaunee Confederacy.
I did not read any news article, where the phrase "Haudenosaunee Confederacy" was used without a tag line attached to it being defined as "...being Great Lakes based Native American and First Nations tribe..."
The President of the United States uses terms of colonialism to describe the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. He referred to the Confederacy as "Six Nation Confederacy". While a U.S. department head uses the term "nation". But neither said the "Haudenosaunee Confederacy". These are clear, mixed messages. Perhaps these mixed messages are being sent out, so that on the one hand it is believed to appease the Haudenosaunee Confederacy as being recognized as a "nation" by a department head, but the U.S. President and government still won't give public recognition to the Haudenosaunee as the "Haudenosaunee Confederacy" and as a "nation". Not a "Tribal Nation".
See Article 72. -when then President Ronald Reagan's personal attorney - William Barr stated to Haudenosaunee Confederacy delegates in private: the U.S. government will never say "the Haudenosaunee Confederacy" in public. They will only refer to them as "Six Nations confederacy" or "Iroquois confederacy".
During President Biden's, Dec 6th 2023 Executive Order- Tribal Nation Summit speech, while discussing the 2028 Olympics, he described the Haudenosaunee Confederacy as the "Six Nation Confederacy". This U.S. governmental policy stated in the 1980s, still appears to be in effect.
The White House Senior Advisor and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs did use the word "nation".
The Canadian Sports Minister did use the word "nation".
In some news articles, it was speculated that there could be a "special exception or inclusion" to have the Haudenosaunee Nationals play in the 2028 Olympics. This is unacceptable. The Haudenosaunee Nationals must compete as a nation, as all other nations compete in the Olympics. Anything less is a failure on the part of the United States, Canada and the IOC to completely remove colonialism from the Olympics.
The IOC technicalities now being presented to stop the Haudenosaunee Nationals from playing in the 2028 Olympics, have the appearance of being stumbling blocks to prevent the recognition of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy as a nation. This is not the purpose of the IOC and clearly outside the scope of its duties.
The mixed terminology used during these announcements in the media, appears to send a mixed message of uncertainty of the nationhood of the Haudenosaunee Nationals lacrosse team.
These recent news articles from December 6th 2023, show that the U.S., Canada and mass media, still refer to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy with the colonial labels of : "Native Americans, First Nations, Six Nations, tribe or tribal". These terms are not semantics, they are colonialism.
The term Haudenosaunee Confederacy must be used. Some reporters are using the word Haudenosaunee, but the "Haudenosaunee Confederacy" is what must be used. We are closer, but still not there.
I did not find a single news agency reporter that used or referred to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy proper, or as a "nation" to compete in the 2028 Olympics. The reporters refer to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy as "Native Americans" and "First Nations". Or "tribe or tribal" in the collective. I have discussed in previous articles that these are all labels of colonialism.
Some use the separate term of "Haudenosaunee", and some are using the separate term "confederation". It needs to be put together with the rightful designation of Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
The colonizing term"Native Americans" refer to indigenous people living within the United States as U.S. citizens, and thereby forcing recognition of the border between the United States and Canada.
The colonizing term"First Nations" refer to indigenous people living within Canada as Canadian citizens, and thereby forcing recognition of the border between United States and Canada.
The Haudenosaunee Confederacy and Haudenosaunee People do not recognize the border between the United States and Canada. They are neither United States or Canadian citizens. They are Haudenosaunee citizens. This is what is declared to immigration and accepted when crossing the border between the United States and Canada. When traveling the world, Haudenosaunee citizens travel using a Haudenossunee passport.
The use of the terms "tribe or tribal" means the Haudenosaunee are not considered a nation. Tell me what nation in the world ever refers to itself as a "tribe or tribal nation". This is how simple it is. Notice that Biden's announcement was made at the "Tribal Nation Summit", made up of BIA tribal leaders.
The news agencies covering this event are still using labels of colonization. Usually the only time you see the word "Haudenosaunee" in any of these articles, is because the team is called the "Haudenosaunee Nationals". That is how important the name "Haudenosaunee" is to the team name. The reporters have no choice but to use the word Haudenosaunee. And they usually only use this word in the context of it being the name of the team. We are closer, but still not there.
There are articles that did use the terminology of "Haudenosaunee Confederacy", but then qualified it as saying it was a "Native American and First Nation tribe". Again the mixed message. And the title of another article said "Joe Biden backs the Haudenosaunee Confederacy". This is NOT what Biden said in his speech. He said "Six Nation Confederacy". Listen to his speech on YouTube.
Can the media's use of these mixed message terms of colonization, be a coincidence?
Can we count on all the media to start showing clarity and using the proper term of "Haudenosaunee Confederacy" from this point forward. If the media truly wants a news story, they could start one with the Haudenosaunee Confederacy being a nation and why are mixed messages being sent about this. Get all the politicians to give a definitive answer. Do they consider the Haudenosaunee Confederacy a nation or don't they.
Here are some quotes from media articles:
cbc sports.com, title: "Joe Biden and White House support Haudenosaunee Nationals for 2028 Olympics". reporter Eddie Pelles, the Associated Press, December 6th, 2023. "Canada sports minister is supporting the Haudenosaunee Nationals bid to compete as a separate nation in Lacrosse at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Carla Qualtrough issued a statement supporting the team on wednesday, hours after U.S. President Joe Biden approved a similar stance. If the Haudenosaunee are allowed to compete as a separate nation in 2028 it would be an unprecedented moment in Olympic history. Qualtrough said when lacrosse returns to the Olympics in the 2028 games. I hope to see the Haudenosaunee Nationals qualify and compete under their own flag."
"We're hopeful the IOC will see it our way, as well." said Tom perez, the White House senior advisor and director of intergovernmental affairs, told the associated press. "If we're successful, it won't simply be the flag of the Haudenosaunee Nationals that marches in the Olympics, it will be the flag of the indigenous people across the world." Perez added that the U.S. is working with Canada to support inclusion in the 2028 Olympics. Quatrough said "that having the Haudenosaunee Nationals play their sport at the 2028 games is keeping with the Olympic spirit."

The Six Nation players are still amongst the very best in the world" Biden said. "It's only fair that the Native American athletes get to represent themselves while competing in a game invented by their ancestors. The Six Nation team is asking to compete under their own tribal flag. Today I'm announcing my support for that request" Biden said. After Biden's speech, World lacrosse released a joint statement with the Haudenosaunee Nationals lacrosse."

This article is meant to clarify and help the continued progress, of having the Haudenosaunee Confederacy recognized as a nation.
